Dr. Joseph Degioanni
has had a dual career that encompasses 20 years as a NASA Medical Officer
and Flight Surgeon, and 25 years as an Emergency Medicine physician.
For 20 of those years, he was on staff at CHRISTUS St. Joseph Hospital,
one of Houston’s busiest, urban, teaching hospitals.
At St. Joseph, he
was the ER Medical Director, Chairman of Emergency Services and was
a member of numerous committees. These included the Executive Committee,
the Utilization Review and Quality Assurance Committee, the Credentials
Committee, the ER Committee, the Forms Committee, the Ethics Committee,
the Education Committee and several subspecialty committees.
Dr. Degioanni was
named the “Best ER Attending” by the Transitional Intern
Class of 1997-1998. He was also awarded the “Acquisition and Improvement
Award” by NASA for his contributions as the medical member of
the Life Sciences Source Board that resulted in an $88 million dollar
Life Sciences contract at the Johnson Space Center in January 1997.
